Abstract
Purposes: The purpose of this study is to analyze the influences of stress and drinking on smoking among high school students by sex.

Methods: A survey was conducted on 23,389 high school students using data from the 18th Youth Health Behavior Online Survey in 2022. Cross tabulation analysis and hierarchical logistic regression analysis were used using the SPSS 29.0 program.

Results: For both male and female students, the influence of smoking significantly increased when attending a specialized high school, having low academic achievement, not living with family, and drinking alcohol. In addition, for male students, the odds ratio of smoking increased when they were in their third year and when stress was high, whereas for female students, it was not significant, showing a difference by sex.

Conclusion: When implementing a smoking cessation program for high school students, it is necessary to develop and apply an intervention program linked to drinking prevention for both men and women. In particular, male students must consider stress as an important factor.
